Public Transport in Prague


To travel by public transport you need a valid ticket which must be obtained before entering a surface transport vehicle or the compulsory ticket area of Metro. Adult persons over 15 years must buy a transfer ticket (20,- CZK) and children form 6 up to 15 years inclusive must have a transfer ticket (10,- CZK). These tickets can be used 75 minutes from validation (On working days from 08.00 PM to 05.00 AM and on Saturdays and Sundays round the clock such tickets can be used 90 minutes from validation).

For short way you can use a non-transfer ticket allowing no change and is valid only 20 minutes form validation in trams and busses. On the Metro such tickets are valid for the distance of 5 stations from the station of validation (not including the station of validation) allowing to change between the lines A,B,C, but no longer than 30 minutes. These tickets do not apply to night routes.

For frequent using of public transport during your stay it is better to buy a season short term tickets:
3-day ticket (72 hours) for 80,- CZK
7-day ticket (168 hours for 220,- CZK
15-day ticket (360 hours) for 320,- CZK.
You can buy tickets in ticket vending machines which are installed at all Metro Stations and at surface transport stops. Tickets are also sold at Metro stations, newsagents, Travel Information Centres, hotels, travel agencies, department stores etc. You can also buy a transfer ticket from bus drivers (for 15,- and 25,- CZK).
